Listen. Walk around. And experience sound as never before. Soundscapes is a series of listening experiences designed for the Kanbar Forum, the Exploratorium’s new multidisciplinary performance space. Artists will create audio experiments that embrace the theater’s Meyer Sound system, one of the most advanced in the world. We’ll explore the spatialization of sound and how it’s experienced in different locations in the theater at a moment in time.

Beginning in September 2013, Soundscapes will feature installations by artists Wayne Grim, Phoebe Tooke, Shane Myrbeck, and Emily Shisko. These experiments will be the first installments of what will become a rich library of listening experiences.

Fathom: Self-Assembling Music

by Emily Shisko and Shane A. Myrbeck

October 5, 2013–February 1, 2014

Come inside. Listen. Walk around.

Make music using Fathom, an installation that uses six distinct always-present sounds. Four of the six sounds can be controlled by visitors. As these sounds are moved around the room and they cross paths with other sounds they fuse, creating new music.
