After Dark: Home
Thursday, May 2, 2013 | 6:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m.
Location: Exploratorium, Pier 15
Adults Only (18+)
Welcome to Home—our first After Dark event at Pier 15. This museum-wide housewarming party features tours of our new campus and exhibits, live music, films, and explorations of homes ranging from the human microbiome to our place in the universe.
Join lead design architect Marc L’Italien of EHDD and lead mechanical engineer Peter Rumsey of Integral to discuss the process of transforming a sleepy warehouse into a vital home for the Exploratorium and the largest net-zero-energy museum in the world.
Enjoy live music from Zac Carroll’s Front Porch, a homestead-inspired mobile stage built from period materials, or spin Home, a 14’ illuminated globe of international street maps by artist Michael Christian.
Meet exotic creatures that call pier pilings home, and get to know some 500 trillion or so residents of your own skin, mouth, and gut with Exploratorium biologist Karen Kalumuck. Stroll through the solar system with staff scientist Ron Hipschman, and learn what makes Earth and other “Goldilocks planets” just right for sustaining life.
Whether you’re new to the Exploratorium or a longtime friend, we hope you’ll make yourself at home with us this After Dark.
