In this program, learn about meteorite hunting in Antarctica with Ralph Harvey who leads the Antarctic Search for Meteorites program (ANSMET). We talk to photographer John Weller, who spent the austral summer 2008 scuba diving under the ice in Antarctica. The POLENET project takes scientists all over the continent to install equipment, and to get there they leave from Williams Field, an airport near McMurdo Station. Willy Field has a runway equipped to handle the largest aircraft that fly into Antarctica. However, this runway is different; there's no pavement here - this runway is made of ice.
POLENET's Stephanie Konfal gives us a look at Willy Field.
We speak with glaciologists Slawek Tulaczyk and Jake Walter, who study ice-sheet dynamics. Join us as we talk to scientists working with IceCube, a neutrino telescope buried in the ice under the South Pole.
