Full Spectrum Science: Making Color

Thursday, May 16, 2013, 7pm and Sunday, May 19, 2013, 2pm

Join Exploratorium scientist Ron Hipschman for the return of Full Spectrum Science, a series of exuberant explorations into physical phenomena on the third Thursday and Sunday of each month. This dynamic series covers different aspects of physics, including sound, color, heat and temperature, and electrostatics. Each hour-long presentation includes hands-on activities and demonstrations. The inaugural presentation at the Exploratorium’s new home at Pier 15 is Making Color on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 7pm, and Sunday, May 19, 2013 at 2pm.

Learn the many ways to make color—from neon signs, to oil slicks, to rainbows, and more. Take away materials to build your own spectroscope. You'll see color in a whole new light! On Sunday, June 16 and Thursday, June 20 attend Sound. What is sound? How high a pitch can you hear? Can you measure the speed of sound with a yardstick? Can two sounds add up to no sound? Explore these questions and more in this resonant presentation.

Full Spectrum Science is for ages 6 years and older, and is included with admission to the Exploratorium.
