Exploratorium Advance Tickets Now On Sale Online

Skip the lines: Purchase Tickets To New Museum at Pier 15 Opening April 17, 2013
Advance Tickets are Highly Encouraged Through Fall 2013

Tickets for the Exploratorium’s brand new location at Pier 15 are now onsale online at www.exploratorium.edu/visit/tickets. Admission is $25 for adults, with discounted rates for SF Bay Area residents, youth, seniors, students, teachers and the disabled. Advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended, for opening day and through Fall 2013. In order to minimize lines and avoid overcrowding, all tickets through September 2013 will feature timed entry. The museum will open with expanded evening hours, staying open on Wednesday evenings until 10pm for all ages; and on Thursday evenings for adult only (ages 18 and up) from 6-10pm. Thursday evening adults-only tickets $15; $10 for members.

The Exploratorium at Pier 15
Located at the heart of the revitalized San Francisco waterfront, the museum’s new location will radically improve access to visitors from all over the world and dramatically enhance the size and scope of the museum. With three times more space overall than its previous home, the new Exploratorium will engage the curiosity and creativity of visitors of any age as they explore 150 brand-new exhibits amongst the nearly 600 that make up the full collection on display.

Opening Day

Museum open with paid admission,10 am-10pm.  Free outdoor events throughout the day, until 11 pm.

Tuesday-Sunday 10am-5pm; Wednesday evenings until 10pm; Thursday evening adult only (ages 18 and up) 6-10pm.

Admission

Note that all tickets will be for timed entry through September 2013. Thursday evening adults-only tickets from 6-10pm are $15; $10 for members. Tickets are now on sale. Free Access Program
In addition to free access for field trips from San Francisco Title I schools (Courtesy PG&E), the Exploratorium is free to everyone 5 days each year effective Fall 2013. Free Days are: Groundhog Day (February 2); Pi Day (March 14); Mothers’ Day (2nd Sunday in May); Engineering Day (last Sunday in September); and Founder’s Day (2nd Sunday in October). Getting There
Public Transportation
•    Muni’s F-line, San Francisco’s historic streetcars that travel on the Embarcadero, will stop in front of the new Exploratorium at the Embarcadero and Green St.  In summer 2013, a temporary E-line will also operate
•    Major bus lines 2, 6, 14, 21, 31 and metro rail lines J, K, L, M, T, N stop within walking distance.  Bus lines 1, 10, 12, 41 and 38 also stop in the vicinity
•    Embarcadero BART and MUNI station and ferry terminals at the Ferry Building are a 10-minute walk away
Parking
•    There is an hourly lot across the street and many more spaces within a 5–10 minute walk to the museum. Exploratorium visitors can also park at The Embarcadero Center parking lot for a specially discounted flat rate of $10 dollars on weekdays from 4 p.m–midnight and all day on weekends. To receive this discounted rate, visitors must have a validation sticker provided by the Exploratorium. Go to exploratorium.edu/visit for more information.

Facility Rentals
The Exploratorium is now taking reservations for private events.  The first available date for private parties is Friday, May 3, 2013.  The Exploratorium at Pier 15 can accommodate seated parties of up to 280 guests with one focal point or 1,600 throughout the building and receptions for up to 4,000 guests.  For more information please contact the Museum Rentals department at events@exploratorium.edu or call (415) 528-4500.
