As the sun heats building walls, thermal refraction causes unique mirage phenomena somewhat different from the more commonly seen horizontal mirages observed on roadways. Using the south-facing façade of Pier 1, this exhibit provides an entry point for exploring some of the basic principles of thermal optics operating in architectural settings.
