Accidental Scientist: Science of Gardening
Any Little Patch of Dirt (Clip)
Date: June 8, 2010
Running Time: 00:05:08

Meet Annette Young Smith, who, along with her neighbors, transformed a littered patch of grass and weeds on a median strip in San Francisco into a lush neighborhood garden full of decorative and edible plants. The Bayview district residents created this garden without government support. At first, they watered it by bringing buckets of water from their homes. Eventually, the city government ceremoniously acknowledged the garden by installing a water meter and providing free water indefinitely
Videos examine a wide range of plant cultivation including a community garden, raising carnivorous plants, and even a garden in Antarctica.
