In this special lecture given at After Dark, Dr. Emiliana Simon-Thomas relates scientific studies of contemplative practices. Dr. Simon-Thomas is Science Director for the Greater Goods Science Center at UC Berkeley. Her current research examines the conceptual nature, experiential properties, and biological underpinnings of positive states like compassion, as well as the potential for cultivating these states and related acts of altruism.
